Note di rilascio non ufficiali:

Two months after the first release candidate was made available, the FreeBSD developers have released version 8.0 of their popular free Unix derivative. While FreeBSD 8.0 is now available from the project´s FTP servers, an official announcement has yet to be made. As with all major updates, the latest release includes a number of changes, updates and new features.

In addition to the usual bug fixes, FreeBSD 8.0 features support for superpages, a new USB stack, a rewritten NFS client/server with NFSv4 and multicast updates including Internet Group Management Protocol version 3 (IGMPv3). The developers have also improved Solaris ZFS support and removed its "experimental" label. Other improvements include updates to the Jails subsystem, Sun´s D-Trace support for kernel traces and Clang/LLVM support.

More details about the release can be found in the release notes. FreeBSD 8.0 is available to download as an ISO image file for amd_64, i386, ia64, PC98, PowerPC and Sparc64 systems. Users currently running FreeBSD 7.0 or later can upgrade via the freebsd-update utility.
